Argentina will meet Brazil in the 2019 Copa America semi-final. The Argentine national team center-back Nicolas Otamendi calls the match an El Clasico between countries.
Brazil first made sure to step into the 2019 Copa America semifinals. The host beat Paraguay by passing a shootout with a score of 4-3 on Friday (6/28/2019) ago. Both teams drew 0-0 in normal time.
A day later, Argentina’s turn to step into the semifinals. Lionel Messi and his friends defeated Venezuela with a score of 2-0 through goals from Lautaro Martinez and substitute Giovani Los Celsco.
“From the beginning, we knew that fighting Venezuela would be difficult. It took time to play free, we got better. Now, we are in the semifinals with a difficult opponent, this is El Clascio,” Otamendi was quoted as saying by Goal International.
“I hope this will be beneficial for Argentina,” said the 30-year center-back.
The Brazilian duel against Argentina is very much awaited. Because both are considered as the main strengths of football in South America. However, in recent years, the achievements of the two countries are not in the best format.
Victory over Venezuela became the second victory won by Argentina in the 2019 Copa America, after previously winning over Qatar. Argentina’s rising graph makes Otamendi feel confident to fight Brazil.
“We will try to give our best, as we have done on the field so far, we work for this jersey.”
“Argentina against Brazil will not be played every day, especially in competitions like this. It will foster a lot of hope. Not only in our country, but in the world. We know this is not easy, but slowly we are better,” said Otamendi.
The semifinal match between Brazil and Argentina will be held on 2 July. This match will be held at Estadio Belo Horizonte.
