Brighton vs Chelsea: Mauricio Pochettino targets 3 points to maintain chance of playing in European competitions

Chelsea coach, Mauricio Pochettino, hopes that his men can maintain their mental health to face their last two matches in the 2023-2024 Premier League. Because Pochettino wants Chelsea to maximize their remaining two matches in order to win tickets to European competition next season.

Chelsea currently sits in seventh place in the 2023-2024 Premier League standings with a collection of 57 points from 36 matches. They also have the opportunity to finish in the top five and secure tickets to the European League next season.

Because, The Blues – Chelsea’s nickname – have the same points as Newcastle United, who sit in sixth position and are only six points away from Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fifth place. Spurs themselves only have one match left, while the other two teams still have two matches left so they have a big chance to unseat Son Heung Min et al.

For Chelsea, the challenge is to face Brighton in the 37th match which will take place on Thursday (16/5/2024) at the Amex Stadium. After that, they hosted Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge as the closing match of the season.

Because of this, Pochettino reminded his subordinates to maintain their mentality ahead of the last two matches. According to him, in the midst of this difficult season, being able to secure tickets to European competition at the end of this season would be a valuable achievement for Raheem Sterling and his colleagues.

“It’s important to keep a strong mentality and really believe that we can reach (European football). “These will be two very difficult matches because Brighton is a very tough team and will be difficult to play against, and then Bournemouth at home,” said Pochettino as quoted from Chelsea’s official website, Wednesday (15/5/2024).

“But the most important thing is to believe and I think the team is working very well. “In the last 26 matches we performed very well and we have to continue to do it this way, trying to always do our best, continue to improve and do our best,” he added.

“It will be difficult but I’m sure we can compete in the next two games, and having the possibility of playing in Europe would be great for us,” he concluded.

Chelsea also came with good capital to fight The Seagulls – Brighton’s nickname. They were able to wipe out the last three matches with a win.

Meanwhile, Brighton has been less consistent in the last five matches. They only collected two wins as well as two draws and a defeat.
