Champions League Results: Held by the Host, Rossoneri Advance to the Semifinals!

The results of Napoli vs AC Milan in the second leg of the 2022-2023 Champions League quarter-finals are known. Playing at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Tuesday (18/4/2023), the match ended 1-1. AC Milan won 1-0 first via a goal scored by Olivier Giroud in the 12th minute, before Victor Osimhen equalized at the end of the match (90+3).

Thanks to this result, AC Milan has qualified for the semifinals of the 2022-2023 Champions League after winning 2-1 on aggregate. Previously, in the first leg which was held at the San Siro Stadium, AC Milan won 1-0 via Ismael Bennacer’s action.

In this match, Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli appeared dominant. Napoli’s possession of the ball in this match reached 74 percent, compared to 26 percent owned by the Rossoneri – the nickname of AC Milan.

Unfortunately, Napoli failed to take advantage of that advantage. Even though they were dominant, the shots on target they made still lost to AC Milan, namely three to four.

This result at the same time shows that AC Milan is not inferior to Napoli even though it is far behind in the race for the 2022-2023 Italian League title. Until week 30, Napoli sits at the top of the 2022-2023 Italian League standings with 75 points, 22 points ahead of AC Milan in fourth place.

The success of qualifying for the semifinals of the Champions League is the first for AC Milan in the last 16 years. AC Milan last appeared in this round in the 2006-2007 Champions League.

At that time, AC Milan led by Carlo Ancelotti crushed Manchester United with an aggregate of 5-3. Then at the top of the party, AC Milan won 2-1 over Liverpool as well as sealing the Champions League title.

Now the question is, can AC Milan win the 2022-2023 Champions League? The opportunity is open, considering that nothing is impossible in football.

In the semifinals of the 2022-2023 Champions League, AC Milan is waiting for the winner of the Inter Milan s Benfica match. Inter Milan had a little bit of the upper hand because apart from playing at home in the second leg, the Nerazzurri – nicknamed Inter Milan – brought provisions to win 2-0 in the first meeting.
