Liverpool managed to beat FC Porto with a score of 2-0 in the Champions League match at Anfield, Wednesday (24/11). In another match in Group B, AC Milan managed to beat Atletico Madrid with a score of 1-0.

Porto opened up opportunities when the game entered the 12th minute. Luiz Diaz gave Otavio a pass, unfortunately, his shot was not on target.

Liverpool actually had scored in the first half through Sadio Mane. However, the goal was disallowed because Mane was considered to be in an offside position.

The first half ended with the score equally strong 0-0. After halftime Liverpool played more openly.

After having to settle for a goalless draw in the first half, Liverpool could finally lead 1-0 in the 52nd minute. Thiago Alcantara fired a long-range shot that Diogo Costa couldn’t stop.

Mohamed Salah then doubled Liverpool’s advantage in the 70th minute. Salah who led the counter-attack to cooperate 1-2 with Jordan Henderson.

Salah entered the box and made a deceptive move before firing a left-footed shot towards the near post which the goalkeeper couldn’t stop.

Victory over FC Porto makes Liverpool collect 15 points from the five matches they have played. The Reds themselves have pocketed a ticket to the last 16 since the fourth matchday ended.

The competition for the remaining one ticket in Group B is getting tighter because AC Milan is now opening wider opportunities to qualify for the round of 16. The Rossoneri managed to steal victory at Atletico Madrid’s headquarters with a score of 1-0.

The only goal for Milan’s victory was scored by Junior Messias in the 87th minute. The Brazilian winger scored with a sharp header from close range when he met Franck Kessie’s precise cross.

Three minutes later, Milan almost doubled their lead through Ismael Bennacer’s curling shot which was unfortunately blocked by goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

In contrast, Matheus Cunha missed Atletico’s golden opportunity to equalize in the first minute of injury time when he picked up Marcos Llorente’s cross but finished off target.

Milan, statistically deserved the win as they had almost 58 per cent possession throughout the game which they tried to convert with 14 attempted shots, four of which were on target.

In contrast, Atletico appeared relatively blunt and only created six chances, two of which could be secured by Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu.

This victory makes Milan collect four points, as well as Atletico. Currently Porto is still in second position with a value of five points.

In the last match, Milan will host Liverpool at the San Siro while Porto duel against Atletico.

Head-to-head, the two teams are tied at 2-2. However, AC Milan has the right to beat Atletico on goal difference. Meanwhile, AC Milan’s chance to qualify for the last 16 is also inseparable from the results of Liverpool vs Porto.
