Christian Eriksen may be out for six months

Christian Eriksen gets bad news. That can’t be separated after the latest report said the Danish international midfielder could not strengthen Inter Milan next season, for the next six months. In other words, Eriksen missed half the season.

Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen could be out of Serie A for at least six months after the incident of fainting from cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 (Euro 2021).

Eriksen collapsed on the pitch at the end of the first half when Denmark faced Finland in the first match of the Euro 2020 group stage.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player received prompt and appropriate treatment, including CPR so that his life could still be saved.

After collapsing in the field, Eriksen immediately underwent heart surgery and was fitted with a cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implant.

However, the installation of the ICD could hamper Eriksen’s career in the Italian League. The reason is that Serie A does not allow players to appear on the field using assistive devices.

The Italian League has different rules from other leagues, one of which is the Dutch League which still allows players with implants to appear professionally.

Previously, the head of the Scientific Committee of the FIGC (Italian Football Association) Franco Braconaro stated that Eriksen could continue to play in the Italian League as long as he removed the assistive device.

With the device in his body, the 29-year-old player cannot play in the Italian League. Because, they do not allow players who use cardiac aids, both amateurs and professionals, to play in their competitions. Therefore, Eriksen can only play if the assistive device is removed.

If Eriksen’s heart condition is caused by temporary inflammation, the device can be removed and he can continue his career in Serie A for Inter. However, it cannot be done immediately. According to Sky Sport Italia, it will take at least six months to undergo tests and have the implant removed.

Eriksen himself is expected to arrive in Milan next week to undergo pre-season training. However, to be able to play officially the 29-year-old player must wait until February 2022.

However, if Eriksen has to continue using the ICD for the sake of his health, he will inevitably have to leave Inter if he wants to continue playing. His current contract at the Giuseppe Meazza is still remaining until 2024.

Eriksen is not expected to find it difficult to find a new club if he has to leave Inter. There are still leagues that allow players with an ICD to appear.

Daley Blind is an example. He uses an ICD after being diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation at the end of 2019, and is currently still actively playing at Ajax Amsterdam and the Dutch national team.
