Liverpool is considered cheating because it is suspected of falsifying the results of the Covid-19 test when they were about to meet Arsenal in the first leg of the 2021-2022 English League Cup semi finals, Friday 7 January 2022. Reportedly ahead of the match against Arsenal, there was only one Liverpool player who tested positive for Covid-19.
Therefore, if it is proven that he falsified the results of the Covid-19 test, will Liverpool be forcibly removed or disqualified from the 2021-2022 English League Cup? According to a report by The Athletic, the operator of the English League Cup competition, EFL, is investigating the issue above.
For your information, the Liverpool squad is reportedly experiencing a Covid-19 storm. As a result, the English League Cup semi final match between Liverpool vs Arsenal was postponed.
As stated above, the first leg of the 2021-2022 English League Cup semi final was originally scheduled to be held at the Emirates Stadium, Friday 7 January 2022 in the early hours of WIB. However, due to the postponement, the first leg is planned to be held at Anfield, Friday 14 December 2022 and the second leg on Friday 21 January 2022.
Liverpool also confirmed that the EFL is currently conducting a review of the case. The Liverpool camp insists they have no other choice, other than asking for a postponement of the match.
“The EFL is fully reviewing the circumstances. Even if they don’t want to, postponement is the only option as the club seeks to reduce the risk of further infection,” Liverpool said in a statement quoting from The Athletic, Tuesday (11/1/2022).
“The squad and staff must do their part to ensure public health is protected by not traveling from Liverpool to London.”
Several Premier League clubs have also complained about the NFL’s decision to accept Liverpool’s request to postpone the match. They also demanded the EFL to investigate Liverpool.
If the allegations are proven, Liverpool has the potential to receive a severe punishment from the EFL. This is because this is one of the biggest forms of cheating in the world of football. If Liverpool were dropped and failed to continue the tournament, it would be very unfortunate.
Because Liverpool have arrived in the semifinals and have not won this event for a long time. The last time Liverpool won the 2011-2012 English League Cup was when Kenny Dalgslish was still in charge.
