Copa del Rey: Mighty Atletico at Home Vs Superior Madrid

The Madrid derby is presented in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. Atletico Madrid is very strong at home while Real Madrid is going fast.

The Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid duel will be held at Civitas Metropolitano on Friday (19/1). This is the second consecutive meeting for the two clubs after Los Blancos won 5-3 in the semifinals of the Spanish Super Cup last weekend.

Los Colchoneros will try to avenge that defeat by relying on an unblemished record at home. Since being humiliated by Barcelona 0-1 in January 2023, Atletico is unbeaten in 24 consecutive matches.

A total of 21 wins were obtained, with only three draws. One of the wins was obtained after beating Real Madrid 3-1 last September.

Across the camp, Madrid is on fire. Not only have they just won the Spanish Super Cup, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops have only lost once and won 24 of the 28 matches they have played throughout 2023/2024.

Former player and Atletico boss Jose Luis Caminero believes the Madrid derby will be different from the Super Cup match. Caminero predicts a very tight game.

“Tomorrow’s match has nothing to do [with the match in Saudi Arabia]. Firstly, Atletico are very strong at home and secondly because they won the derby in the previous league. This is a do-or-die match because whoever loses will be out of the Copa del Rey, but I’m sure it will be a tight match,” he told AS.

“Madrid are now the strongest team, not only because of the nine goals they have scored against Atletico and Barca. Almost all of their players are in top form and it shows. The season is still long, and now almost all of Madrid’s players are in optimal condition. If you add to that “It’s down to the level of fitness and confidence they have, it’s clear Madrid are the team to beat,” concluded Caminero.
