Defeat Galatasaray, Bayern Munich Get Perfect Points

Bayern Munich withstood intense pressure from Galatasaray for more than 70 minutes before scoring twice to seal a 3-1 victory early Wednesday that kept them top of Group A of the Champions League.

With the victory, Bayern extended their record winning streak in the Champions League group stage to 16 matches.

The German champions also went on a record 37-game unbeaten run in the group stages.

The Bavarian team topped their group with nine points, and Galatasaray were second with four points.

Bayern unusually found themselves on the back foot as Galatasaray made 20 attacks to their six, with the two teams locked in a 1-1 draw after scoring in the first half hour.

But Bayern striker Harry Kane scored in the 73rd minute and Jamal Musiala scored a third six minutes later to end their opponents’ 23-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

“This is the first time I’ve been in this stadium and now my hearing will come back,” said Kane.

“Fortunately we were able to get through it today.

“It’s a very important win. It’s a very difficult place. It’s difficult for us, especially in the first half.”

“In the second half we were a little more calm, controlled the ball better, and took advantage of our chances. To get nine points after three games is very important.”

The Turkish side, full of confidence after their win over Manchester United the previous matchday, showed no signs of nervousness against their superior opponents and had a chance through Mauro Icardi in the fourth minute.

The visitors silenced the fiery home crowd through Kingsley Coman in the eighth minute.

The host’s constant pressure paid off in the 30th minute when Icardi was brought down in the penalty box.

The Argentine calmly executed a Panenka-style penalty kick into the middle of the goal.

At the beginning of the second half which went just as fast, Galatasaray again got a golden opportunity.

But the hosts began to run out of energy after failing to score again and Bayern’s confidence grew, with Kane scoring in the 73rd minute.

The goal opened the game for Bayern, who were missing several players through injury, and they added another through Musiala to secure a hard-earned victory.

Manchester United will face FC Copenhagen in another group match later.
