Defeat to Napoli, Liverpool Not Disappointed

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp did not bother with the 0-3 defeat that Liverpool got when facing Napoli in a preseason match on Sunday (28/7).

Liverpool fell with a landslide score through goals scored by Lorenzo Insigne, Arkadiusz Milik, and Amin Younes. This defeat made Liverpool unable to win in the last four games they had played in preseason.

This match is the first meeting of the two after last season meeting in the Champions League group stage. Napoli immediately opened the scoring when the match ran 18 minutes. It was a kick from Lorenzo Insigne that failed to be well anticipated by Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

In the 28 minutes, it was Insigne’s turn to be the creator of the Reds’ second goal. Arkadiusz Milik made use of Insigne’s pass to make a goal, the score changed 2-0. Liverpool actually scored a goal through Giorginio Wijnaldum. But the referee annulled the goal, because Wijnaldum was in an offside position.

The second half Liverpool tried to pursue a two-goal deficit. Unfortunately the efforts of the squad from Juergen Klopp never succeeded. Amin Younes who replaced Dries Martens managed to score. Younes scored after Mignolet failed to catch a kick from Insigne.

There are no more goals in the rest of the match. Napoli successfully defeated Liverpool, which received the support of around 60 thousand spectators.

Even so it was not too disturbing for Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp. For Klopp, preseason results cannot be a benchmark because Liverpool cannot reduce their full strength.

“Finally this difficult period is over. I have never experienced a situation like this, had a pre-season without six players. It’s really strange.”

“Tomorrow, some of them have returned. Of course it would be better if they could return sooner, but this is the condition,” Klopp said after the match, quoted from Standard.

Despite failing to win in the last four games, Klopp assesses there are positive things that can be picked by Liverpool ahead of the Community Shield match this weekend.

“The best news for us is that Manchester City have no idea what team they will face next week because we will surprise everyone,” Klopp said.

In addition to a row of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah strikers who are still on holiday because they have just fulfilled the national team’s duties, injured players such as Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita are also said to have recovered.

Before facing Manchester City, Liverpool still had a friendly against Olympique Lyon on 31 July.

“I hope they can take to the field for a few minutes on Wednesday. There will be 5-6 players coming back, of course that is good news.”
