Defeated by Newcastle, Erik ten Hag asks Manchester United to immediately shift focus to Chelsea

Manchester United coach, Erik Ten Hag, commented on his team’s defeat to Newcastle United in the 2023-2024 Premier League. However, Ten Hag did not want to get lost in this defeat and wanted his squad to immediately shift focus to the next match against Chelsea.

The Red Devils – Man United’s nickname – had to suffer a 0-1 defeat when they visited Newcastle’s headquarters at St James Park Stadium, Sunday (3/12/2023). The winning goal for the team nicknamed The Magpies was scored by Anthony Gordon in the 55th minute.

After the match, Ten Hag was disappointed because his team lost. However, the Dutch tactician did not want to worry about this minor result. He is confident that Man United will rise in the next match against Chelsea at Old Trafford Stadium on Thursday (7/12/2023).

“If you lose, you are always unhappy and we spoke with the team about the reasons, but I am sure this team is tough, we have to recover, we did it after City too,” said Ten Hag, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, Sunday (3/12 /2023).

“This team has experience and we have to prepare for Wednesday, the next match (against Chelsea at home), and can’t get hung up on this match,” he continued.

Erik ten Hag also admitted that Newcastle played better than Man United. He also regrets the opportunities that his foster children have received, but unfortunately they have not yet been utilized properly.

“We have to give Newcastle credit, they played better than us tonight. “We started well, had a chance through Garnacho, but then after that they were better,” added Ten Hag.

This defeat forced Man United to sit in seventh position with a collection of 24 points. Meanwhile for Newcastle, they managed to climb to fifth position with a collection of 26 points on the 2023-2024 Premier League standings.

Manchester United coach, Erik Ten Hag, confirmed that he would hold talks with his striker, Marcus Rashford, because he was never giving his best performance. This was conveyed after Man United lost to Newcastle United in the 2023-2024 Premier League.

A number of Man United players were also in the spotlight after the match. One of them is Rashford. The reason is, he also did not get out of the difficult times this season.

This season, Rashford has only scored two goals in 18 appearances for Man United in all competitions. In the match against Newcastle, the English striker again failed to show off.

In fact, Erik Ten Hag entrusted Rashford to appear from the early minutes of the match. Ten Hag also seemed dissatisfied with his bomber’s performance so he replaced him with Antony in the 61st minute.

Responding to Rashford’s decline in performance, Ten Hag did not comment much. The former Ajax Amsterdam coach only said that he would speak privately with his team.

“I will talk to him and not the media,” said Ten Hag to TNT Sports, reported by Metro, Monday (4/12/2023).

Regarding the defeat to Newcastle, Ten Hag will also carry out an evaluation of his team. This Dutch coach will talk to his squad to find the problem points that are haunting Man United.

“We had a difficult first half. We made a good comeback at the end of the game. “We will discuss it tomorrow with the team about it (evaluation),” said Ten Hag.
