Deontay Wilder said he needs to fight WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury for trilogy fight. The American boxer believed he did not fight at his best.
Fury dropped the ‘Bronze Bomber’ Wilder twice and stopped him in the seventh round of their rematch to capture the WBC world title back in February.
“No one should be surprised! I am who I am. I’m Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder, you know, and nothing’s going to change about that.” Wilder said.
“Why wouldn’t I want this fight? You know, like I said, at this point we are waiting. Over time will come a time when I will be ready to go out and say what I have to say.
“You know, watching this fight, he knows it wasn’t me. I know it wasn’t me and the people who follow boxing know it, everyone knows it wasn’t the real Deontay Wilder! Something didn’t work with it, and you know, let’s show it.
“Like I said, there is a moment for everything and at that moment I will reveal a lot. You know, I’m looking forward to this third fight. I can’t wait to be able to show the world what they want to see.” Wilder added.
On the other hand, Fury believed Wilder demanded the trilogy only for big money. In their rematch, both boxers earned more than US$25 million apiece, plus a percentage of the PPV profits.
“I’m sure that the money side of it is the tempting thing. I don’t think it’s to tempting to go in there and get an absolute beating like he did before,” Fury said.
“But he would be tempted by the amount of money that he would receive because they go through it quite quickly. I think that’s the reason he’s taking the fight, for the money.” Fury added.
The trilogy fight was set for a date of July 18, but due to the coronavirus pandemic it was pushed back to October.
