Djokovic Sets Deadline for Travel to Indian Wells

World number 1 Novak Djokovic is still hopeful that he will be able to compete in the 2023 Indian Wells tournament, despite the fact that travel restrictions begin to be preventing him from entering the United States.

The strict entry requirements of the United States have been extended, so until April 10 all foreign nationals must provide proof of vaccination, unless they qualify for an exemption.

“We’ll see. Let’s see what the answer is and then I decide what to do. Now I find myself right here in Dubai and then we’ll see what happens.” Djokovic said.

“As for the draw, I’m not going to wait for it to arrive to find out if I can play or not. Whatever it is, it will be before the draw for the main draw.” Djokovic added.

His season so far can be summed up very simply. 15 games, 15 wins and two titles won – Australian Open is one of them.

“The first game here was the one I felt the most ups and downs. I started well and ended up surviving against a player who felt really good that night. I made a lot of unforced mistakes and I didn’t play as well.” Djokovic said.

“There was no pain where my injury was. There wasn’t that kind of feeling, but it’s true that it takes a game or two to get into the dynamic and for everything to flow again.

“It’s one thing to train and play training matches, another is an official game, with nerves, public, everything. Suddenly, it’s a little tense and things can go wrong.” He added.

Djokovic on Thursday defeated Hubert Hurkacz to reach the semi-finals and is still on track to win his sixth Dubai Tennis Championships. Against, the Serb triumphed in straight sets.
