Emma Raducanu The 2021 US Open champion is waiting with open arms in her father’s home country Romania. Where the latest WTA tournament the Transylvania Open will be held two weeks before the WTA Finals.

The tennis player’s 18-year-old father, Ian, who currently works in finance, grew up in Romania before moving to England and meeting the 18-year-old’s mother who is from China.

As well as offering the excitement of playing in front of an audience in his father’s homeland, the WTA level 250 tournament could give the Briton the chance to meet one of his idols, Simona Halep and earn points in the race for the WTA Finals in Guadalajara.

If Emma Raducanu decides to participate, he will be in Cluj-Napoca between 25 October – 1 November. What is clear is that organizers Transylvania will be delight to have this season’s US Open champion play in front of a Romanian crowd.

“Emma has shown incredible strength in recent weeks. I know what’s behind the effort he puts in. It’s not easy to maintain such a good level in every game. Emma makes it look simple, but it really isn’t,” explains Patrick Ciorcila, tournament director of the Transylvania Open.

The second WTA tournament to be held in Cluj-Napoca this season the Transylvania Open is expected to be able to gather a number of reliable players. Especially after their placement on the WTA calendar which is two weeks before the season-ending tournament the WTA Finals.

“We were expecting to see some tough players in the tournament, especially after we followed up with the WTA Finals. The Transylvania Open will be hold indoors the BT Arena. We will sell the tickets after October 1,” added Ciorcila.

“And I can’t wait to see a full crowd like the US Open.”

Meanwhile, the WTA has announced that this season’s WTA Finals will be held on November 8-15 in Guadalajara Mexico. The location moved from its usual location, Shenzhen, due to a number of restrictions and regulations imposed due to the pandemic.

Cluj-Napoca is the only city in Europe that has two permits to host two WTA tournaments and both are level 250 tournaments, the Winners Open and the Transylvania Open.
