Arsenal managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the English League Cup after beating Leeds United 2-0, Tuesday (26/10).
Appearing in public at the Emirates, Arsenal successfully won 2-0 over Leeds United. Had difficulty scoring goals in the first half, the Gunners raged in the second half.
Arsenal coach lowered his core players in this match. Bernd Leno, Nicolas Pepe, and Mohammed Elneny, who have been on the bench for the most part, are believed to have appeared since the early minutes.
Arsenal immediately step on the gas since the beginning of the first half. They immediately got a chance in the fourth minute through Eddie Nketiah who fired a hard kick that just went wide on the side of the goal that was guarded by Illan Meslier.
Ten minutes into the game, Sead Kolasinac almost opened the scoring for the Gunners. Unfortunately the Bosnian player’s kick could be pushed aside by Meslier who swiftly guarded the net.
Instead of attacking, Leeds threatened the Arsenal goal which was guarded by Bernd Leno in the 19th minute. However, Daniel James’ one on one chance with the German goalkeeper only resulted in a corner kick.
After that, Marcelo Bielsa’s team continued to put pressure on the Gunners. They launched an attack through breakthrough passes even though none of them resulted in a goal.
Ambitious to win, Arsenal immediately launched an attack since the second half began. As a result, they also managed to lead by one goal in the 55th minute through Callum Chambers.
The England defender scored with his first touch after replacing Ben White. He headed the ball to tear the Leeds goal after welcoming Nicolas Pepe’s corner.
Continuing to press, the Gunners were able to increase their advantage in the 69th minute. It was Nketiah who scored the goal after completing the one-on-one opportunity against Meslier well.
Seven minutes later, Sam Greenwood got a good chance after receiving the ball thrown up by Mateusz Klich’s kick. However, his hard kick from close range still aimed at Leno and was saved.
After that, Leeds tried to develop the game. They could have had more of the ball and created some chances but none of them scored.
Until the game ended, no more goals were created. Arsenal also qualified for the next round after winning 2-0.
This result brought Arsenal to become the first team to successfully advance to the quarter-finals of the English League Cup this season.
