Everton new boss Frank Lampard is reportedly interested in Manchester United’s Midfielder Donny van de Beek.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Everton have now joined Crystal Palace in the race to sign Donny van de Beek at the request of Lampard.
“While Crystal Palace are progressing in talks with United since Wednesday, Everton have now entered in the race to sign van de Beek,” Romano said.
“Lampard’s set to sign and wants Everton to try for Donny. Crystal Palace will push again to get the deal done. Two clubs race now. Everton and Crystal Palace are both negotiating for a loan move.” Romano added.
Van de Beek is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, with United interim coach Ralf Rangnick identifying him as one of four players he is happy to let go in January.
Since moving to United from Ajax in the summer of 2020 for £ 39 million, Van de Beek has had many difficulties adapting to the new team.
The Dutch could not find an official position under either coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Ralf Rangnick, and he did not show much when playing.
This season, Van de Beek has only made 14 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, most of them from the bench.
Everton have put Lampard in pole position to become their new boss after a final round of interviews on Friday which pushed him to the front of the queue.
The 43-year-old manager has been out of work since leaving Chelsea last January but had been linked with other vacancies at Aston Villa, Norwich and Crystal Palace in recent months.
Lampard impressed during a second interview and will now be given the task of galvanising a club that has slipped dangerously close to the relegation zone following a disastrous run of results.
