F1 legend Rubens Barrichello and Juan Pablo Montoya start investing in Esports

Fans of Formula 1 (F1) racing are certainly familiar with the names Rubens Barrichello and Juan Pablo Montoya. Having played for the Ferrari team for six years, Barrichello is a legendary partner Michael Schumacher who is famous for being fast on the circuit. Likewise Montoya, despite swerving to NASCAR since 2006, he is still recognized as one of the best F1 racers of all time.

At the age of those who are both already forty above, Barrichello and Montoya are now no longer active as F1 racers. But they are still involved in the world of car racing. Surprisingly, both of them turned out to have plunged as investors in the company Millennial Esports.

Millennial Esports is a company in both the Worlds Fastest Gamers (WFG) esports competition. As the title suggests, WFG aims to find gamers with the potential to be the fastest drivers to become a driver simulator. Carrying the famously realistic gamerFactor 2, the first season of the competition was won by Rudy Van Buren from the Netherlands. Now Rudy Van Buren is a driver simulator for the McLaren Formula 1 team.

Season 2 WFG has now been launched, and with it several changes have occurred. Millennial Esports is now headed by a new President and CEO, Darren Cox. WFG Season 2 will also provide an opportunity for the champions to take part in real racing in 2020.

On August 9, 2019, Millennial Esports announced funding of US $ 15,000,000 consisting of three phases. The Montoya / Barrichello Group disbursed an investment of US $ 5,342,000 in the second phase which was closed on July 25, 2019.

“We are refocusing Millennial Esports into a business that concentrates on two large untouched opportunities in esports – motorsport and data provision,” said Cox, “Juan Pablo and Rubens’ involvement in this business will bring more insight and credibility to our group and team. “Darren Cox himself used to hold the position of Global Motorsport Director at Nissan.

Barrichello and Montoya at Millennial Esports will occupy special advisory boards under the direction of Darren Cox. According to the official announcement on the WFG website, this is part of a new business strategy launched by Cox.

“I have been racing online for years and recently took on the role of a jury for Millennial Esports’ World’s Fastest Gamer competition,” Montoya said, “I saw the strength of the team behind him and decided that I should be more involved. Esports racing is experiencing a great growth of interest through programs such as World’s Fastest Gamers, F1 Espots, and NASCAR esports competitions. Until now there has been no simple way to invest in it; Millennial Esports has opened the opportunity. “
