Formula 1 Red Bull Racing Team boss Christian Horner has insisted that his team has absolutely no interest in bringing Pierre Gasly back to Red Bull this season.
Gasly started his 2019 season with Red Bull Racing alongside Max Verstappen, but briefly came under pressure from a team entirely focused on the Dutch driver.
During his time at Red Bull, Gasly struggled to match Verstappen’s pace. He was consistently slower than Verstappen on race weekends, there were even occasions where Gasly was lapped by his teammate.
Regularly, the gap between Verstappen and Gasly was around four tenths and although the team leaders kept repeating until the Hungarian Grand Prix that the French driver would finish the season at Red Bull. He was then replaced by Alex Albon during the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix.
But Gasly has been impressed with his performance alongside the AlphaTauri so far, while Albon seems to be in exactly the same situation as that experienced last season by the 24-year-old driver.
Against this backdrop, many wonder if Red Bull would be able to bring Gasly back alongside Verstappen before the end of the 2020 season, but Christian Horner has insisted that the Red Bull door is closed to Gasly.
“We have no interest in putting Pierre back in our car at Red Bull this season. He’s doing a great job at AlphaTauri, and of course we’re seeing his progress because he’s a Red Bull Racing driver. And of course, we also have a lot of information on how he’s developing and performing.” Horner said.
This season, Gasly is yet again showing good form, scoring 14 points in six races while his teammate at AlphaTauri has just two.
“Obviously that day was very difficult, I was disappointed, frustrated. I remember well what happened and obviously it wasn’t a nice feeling.” Gasly said.
