Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was beaming after seeing his side convincingly beat Derby County 3-0 on Friday at Pride Park to progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Speaking afterwards, Solskjaer impressed with the Red Devils players ‘special’ quality and the Norwegian manager admitted they have go to go for everything.
“Today the FA Cup was the highest priority because we’re not going to pick and choose games or competitions,” Solskjaer said.
“I’m very pleased with the performance, to go through. You never know being favourites but it was professional. I’ve got good players and they’re hitting form. We’ve go to go for everything. That is what it is to be here ay Manchester United, you have got to go for a trophy.” he added.
The opening goal came from an unlikely source left-back Luke Shaw scored only his second goal for United with a bouncing drive that looped in to the net.
Soslkjaer was also happy with January signing Ighalo’s performance in the game. Ighalo made it 2-0 seven minutes later when he held off Craig Forsyth and found the corner.
“He’s doing what he says on the tin. He’s different type of striker and gets chances every game. He could have had another couple. I’m delighted, very happy with him.” Solskjaer said.
“It’s great to have Odion to call upon and he’s a different type of striker. He’s experienced and he’s scored goals his whole career, in and around the box. For the first one tonight, the ball’s underneath him, not many strikers could dig that out. That type of striker is vital for the team.” Solskjaer added.
Solskjaer’s side will face Norwich in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Meanwhile Norwich would prevail in an epic FA Cup penalty shoot out win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
