Fabio Quartararo: “I Expected a Bit More”

The first tests of 2022 for MotoGP on Thursday has begun at Jerez, with two days of testing with all the riders, except Ducati.

Monster Energy Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo took part of testing with different objectives. For the 2021 world champion, the important thing was to understand what went wrong with the bike during the first day of testing.

“I tried the same bike they had already brought to the Misano tests and then some other things, like a new swing-arm, and some new electronics. I know it’s just a first evolution, but more workd is needed to feel clear improvements.” Quartararo said.

Quartatraro admitted he hopes Yamaha will find their power unit when MotoGP testing takes place shortly afterwards at Sepang in early and mid-February.

“I expected a bit more, I hope they have kept the best for Sepang. They will have three months to find the power we need. We just need top speed, we also need to improve our aerodynamic package.” Quartararo said.

“Jerez is a good track to test the chassis, not the negine, but here too you can feel the difference compared to the Ducati. In addtiion, you need to be able to make the bike turn better in slow corners.” he added.

Quartararo celebrated the first MotoGP title of his career at Misano Grand Prix. He became one of the few riders to win the premier class for the first  time without ever having won a single crown in Moto2 or Moto3.

The 22-year-old rider has been on the podium then times during the 2021 MotoGP season and always finished in the top 8 in every single race, with the exception of the Spanish GP at Jerez.

“Now we are world champions. I have no words and no longer have enough fluid in my body to cry. I can’t even describe how I’m feeling right now.” Quartararo said.

“It’s incredible to be the first Frenchman to be titled in MotoGP. I’m happy for Yamaha. Since 2015 they haven’t won a title and today we have. It’s a wonderful feeling.” he added.
