Formula 1 Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto revealed what make the difference in the team’s reconstruction and insisted that expectations for 2022, when the new technical regulations come into effect are high.
Third place in the Formula 1 constructor’s championship in 2021, Ferrari enjoyed a much better year than 2020, when it was only sixth.
“The project is going according to plan. We know we don’t have references to other competitors or rumors about what’s going on, the budget ceiling that will be even more restrictive next year.” Binotto said.
“It will be a big challenge. But the team is well organized and working with dedication, and stronger than last year.” Binotto added.
Ferrari has duo Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in 2021. The two staged a fierce internal dispute, but it was Sainz who came out ahead in the final stretch of the season, adding 164.5 points to finish the championship in fifth place, a better position outside the hegemony of the leaders Mercedes and Red Bull. Leclerc was seventh, behind Lando Norris.
The duo won a total of five podiums for the Italian team in the season that has ended. The victory, however, did not come; the team came close with Sainz’s second place in the Monaco GP and Leclerc’s in England. Ferrari’s last win was at Singapore GP in 2019.
“If I look at the car and the 2022 power units, believe me, there is a lot of innovation. The entire engineering team faced the new design and the 2022 regulations with a more open mind than before,” Binotto said.
“We’ve been working hard for over a year to develop not only team spirit but what I would call culture. Months ago, we held a workshop on teamwork to discover the behavior needed to become better in the future.” he added.
