Ferrari manager, Mattia Binotto, was disappointed with the decision of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) regarding the penalty imposed on Sebastian Vettel.
The FIA on Friday (6/21/2019) has officially rejected Ferrari’s request to review the penalty sentenced to one of its drivers, Sebastian Vettel, during his performance in the 2019 Canadian F1 series.
Maranello’s squad itself has met several stewards to attach new evidence before the 2019 F1 GP free practice session.
Laurent Mekies, who served as sporting director, was the representative of the Italian manufacturer. He attached a number of data regarding the telemetry analysis of the SF90 car driven by Sebastian Vettel. However, all of that was unable to change the FIA’s decision to no longer review the penalty given to the German racer.
In response to the situation, Ferrari manager Mattia Binotto felt disappointed at the International Automobile Federation’s decision to refuse to review the decision.
“Disappointed, very disappointed. The decision was disappointing for myself, disappointing for the team as well and of course this sport and not to forget also disappointing for fans,” said Mattia Binotto as cited from the Formula 1 page.
“Without much commenting on the decision and no doubt for Ferrari, we were all unhappy and disappointed and we did not intend to comment further,” Mattia Binotto said.
Sebastian Vettel received a five-second penalty from race director while undergoing a Formula 1 Canadian GP race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The penalty was given after the stewards rated Sebastian Vettel in a foul when driving in the grass area at 3-4 when the race entered the 48th round.
The 31-year-old driver was considered to have made a dangerous re-entry for his competitor Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) after driving fast when crossing the chicane.
As a result, Sebastian Vettel had to be willing to go down one strip and occupy the second podium at the end of the race even though he actually became the rider who finished first.
With this FIA decision, the title of the 2019 F1 GP is still held by a silver arrow squad through its driver Lewis Hamilton. Currently Hamilton collected 162 points, followed by Bottas from same team with 133 points.
