Formula 1 has revealed more concept images of its proposed 2021 cars. It also explained that the driving force behind the changes of looks for 2021 remained to help improve the racing.
Ferrari boss Louis Camilleri on the other hand, he was ‘reasonably optimistic’ about the possibility of reaching within acceptable deadlines to an agreement on the rules that will govern the Formula 1 from 2021 season.
“I’m reasonably optimistic about an agreement in good time, but Ferrari will always insist that this does not happen at the expense of guaranteeing that F1 will remain at the top of the sporting competition technology,” Camilleri said.
“There is a basic consensus about the main objectives, but ideas on how to achieve this differ widely. Progress has been made, but we are still far from a comprehensive agreement that all participants could sign,” Camilleri added.
His predecessor Sergio Marchionne, who died in July, was in the forefront of the fight against the new F1 owners, the Liberty Media Americans, and the International Automobile Federation (FIA), who were supposed to make the discipline more egalitarian from 2021.
In particular, mention is made of budget restrictions and a more egalitarian distribution of commercial revenues to the stables, to the detriment of Ferrari, one of the main beneficiaries.
Whether bluffing or not, Marchionne had even threatened to scrap the Scuderia from the top category of motorsport at the time, while Ferrari has never left F1 since the inaugural season in 1950.
The 2021 season must be the occasion for a complete overhaul of the regulations governing F1, at the commercial, technical and sporting levels.

F1’s managing director of motorsport, Ross Brawn, thus confirmed last weekend the outline of the project of transformation of the single-seaters – with the futuristic look and the aerodynamics designed to favor overtaking, at this horizon.
“I see no reason why we cannot have exciting looking cars. It frustrates me when a car in a video game looks better than the car we are racing out on track.” Brawn said.
“That is not to say we pay total homage to what will look great in a video game. It has to be a great racing car. The primary purpose is to produce raceable cars, car that will battle in close proximity.
“I am pretty optimistic that we will produce some great looking cars and they will be able to race each other much more effectively than they were in the past.” Brawn added.
