The FIA has issued its detailed report on Hamilton-Alonso incident at the opening lap of Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix.
The FIA explained what makes Lewis Hamilton free of charges that upset Fernando Alonso.
Alonso, Alpine F1 driver, felt furious when his rival at Mercedes came in contact at the opening lap. Both drivers contacted while fighting for the second spot at Les Combes of Spa-Francorchamps race.
Hamilton took advantage of the Kemmel Straight and went ahead of Alonso. He moved outside in an attempt to surpass and slingshot ahead of him.
Hamilton went ahead of the Spaniard on the entry to the first right hand corner and closed the door on him. Alonso had no space to turn, but towards Hamilton. Both came in contact which put Mercedes flicking up in to the air.
Alonso somehow managed to continue the race. While Hamilton had suffered damage and had to retire from the race. The car was suspected of water leakage.
Alonso was disappointed with the driving style of seven times world champion. He expressed his frustration with the Brit on the radio to his team.
“What an idiot closing the door from the outside,” said Alonso. “We had a mega start but this guy only knows how to drive starting first.”
FIA Investigation
FIA stewards investigated the incident, however they concluded with no burden on either of the driver. They claimed that such incidents are comment on the opening laps when drivers fight for position.
A statement issued by the FIA said: “The Stewards reviewed the video evidence and determined that Alonso was on the inside at turn 5.
“Hamilton’s front wheels were ahead of Alonso’s at the entry to the corner. Alonso moved his car off line to the inside with both right side tyres fully on the kerb and even somewhat inside the kerb.
“At no point did Alonso appear to lose control or understeer. Hamilton turned into towards the apex of the corner with Alonso still alongside and the collision occurred.
“The Stewards considered that this was a first lap incident with a lot of movement relative to other cars in the first few corners. And thus take no further action.”

Hamilton did not attend the medical centre after the incident. The authorities did issue warning to him.
The FIA said: “The Stewards received a report from the Race Director that driver Hamilton refused to visit the Event Medical Service following his crash on Lap 1.
“This is not the first time this season that drivers (not Hamilton) have initially refused to go for a medical check.
“The Stewards issue a warning in this case, with a reminder to all drivers that stronger action may be taken in the future.”
