The last three editions of the World Cup were marked by having fastest balls. And it will be no different the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. According to reports, FIFA have promised to have the fastest ball of all the World Cups.
It was with this same concept that the entity caused great controversy at the World Cup held in South Africa in 2010. In that edition, the famous Jabulani, as the ball was named, ended up being criticised by some players, who complained about the curves it made in strong kicks.
The Brazilian national team players even called the round “adversary”, “horrible”, and “supermarket ball”.
To avoid the same trauma in Qatar, the world football’s governing body asked Adidas, the official supplier of the balls, for a technology that would help give more precision to the shots.
According to Adidas said that the 14th successive ball that it has created for the FIFA World Cup is designed to support peak game speeds, as it travels faster in flight than any ball in the tournament’s history.
With the start of the 2022 World Cup in one day, the ball will roll in Qatar on November 20, with the host country’s game against Ecuador.
FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, meanwhile, has admitted that semi-automated offside technology will be used at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar starting on November 21.
Accirding to reports, the technology to support tool for the video match officials and the on-field officials to help them make faster, more accurate and more reproducible offside decisions on the biggest stage of all.
“FIFA is committed to harnessing technology to improve the game of football at all levels, and the use of semi-automated offside technology at the FIFA World Cup in 2022 is the clearest possible evidence.” Infantino said.
