Finally, Messi Chose To Stay at Barcelona

One of the radio stations from Spain, Cadena SER, revealed something that many people have been waiting for. According to Cadena SER, Lionel Messi finally chose to stay with Barcelona.

The plan is that today Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, has a meeting with the president of Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu. The main focus in this meeting was to discuss the future of La Pulga – the nickname Messi – with Barcelona.

However, according to the Cadena SER report, the meeting which took place in the afternoon Spanish time or Thursday, 3 September 2020 in the morning WIB, has found the answer. In the meeting, only one will discuss, namely Messi’s contract extension.

Reportedly, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu offered Messi a two-year contract. A two-year contract means Messi will be under contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2022.

So, how can Cadena SER know the results of the meeting between Bartomeu and Jorge Messi, even though the meeting itself has not yet been held? Cadena SER has competent Barcelona insider sources, so it’s news that they can be accounted for.

In addition, a few days ago, Bartomeu was also reportedly reluctant to meet Messi and Jorge Messi if they insisted on leaving Barcelona. Bartomeu only wants to meet Messi or his father if La Pulga wants to stay at Barcelona.

Therefore, Cadena SER concludes, the meeting above is the moment in which Jorge Messi agrees to extend his contract with Barcelona. That means, Lionel Messi’s transfer saga will end soon and Barcelona come out as winners.

Previously, on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, Messi sent a fax to Barcelona management. The fax was written, Messi asked Barcelona’s management to activate clause number 24 that he had contracted with. In the clause it is written, Messi can leave for free in the 2020 summer transfer market, or when his contract has one season left.

However, Barcelona’s management did not immediately agree with Messi’s request. In their view, the application for the activation of Messi’s clause has expired.

In the assessment of Barcelona management, Messi can only apply for a free move in the summer of 2020 until June 10, 2020. If this date passes, the interested club must bring Messi for 700 million euros, or approximately IDR 12.2 trillion.

Even so, Messi can still argue with Barcelona’s management. When Messi signed the contract in November 2017, 10 June 2020 was appointed as the deadline because of his calculations, the 2019-2020 season ended on 1 June 2020.

So, at that time Messi was given 10 days or until June 10, 2020, if he intended to leave Barcelona for free in the 2020 summer transfer market. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the competition was delayed.

As a result, the 2019-2020 competition only ended on 23 August 2020. If 10 days are counted, Messi should be able to submit a resignation letter until today, September 2, 2020. This means that Messi has followed the provisions, considering that he submitted his resignation letter on August 25, 2020, or 8 days earlier than the stipulation.
