Firmino signs new Liverpool long-term contract

Liverpool superstar, Roberto Firmino has signed a new long-term contract plus £180,000 salary per week with the Reds which will run until 2023, ending any speculation surrounding his future.

In a video released by Liverpool, Firmino was entering a room at Melwood before signing the contract, without looking, in a regard to the no-look celebration he has made famous this season. However, the Premier League club did not inform details about the Brazilian player’s new contract to the media.

The 26-year-old striker has made appearances in all competitions and scored 50 goals, becoming an important player for Liverpool alongside his team-mate Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Speaking to Liverpool website, Firmino said the decision was easy and very happy to play at Anfield alongside team-mates.

“It was an easy decision. The club has taken me in an incredible way and I’ve grown up here with my team. I am very happy here. Everything fits in the best possible way. My team mates are fantastic and I am very grateful to be able to play at this club.” Firmino said after signing the contract.

“I love to play for Liverpool FC. The fans are excellent and fantastic in how they support us all the way. They support us during the games and the work they are doing.” Firmino added.

Firmino joined Liverpool in 2015 from German club Hoffenheim for £29 millions. He made his debut on August 2, at the club in a pre-season friendly away to Swindon Town.

He switched his number to 9, in order to let Salah takes number 11 before the start of the 2017/18 season and he also helping the club beat Italian Seri A club AS Roma 5-2 in the first leg of their semi-final last week.

Salah and Firmino both scored twice at home on Tuesday as Liverpool scored into a 5-0 led, but Roma scored two late goals back to give themselves a blaze of hope.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will travel to Rome for second leg this week and they hoped to reach the Champions League final and win the trophy.

Liverpool are currently at third in the Premier League standings with 72 points from 36 games played this season and they still have three games to go.
