The Italian Capital Club, AS Roma, is again making a splash in the 2022 summer transfer market. This time, AS Roma has brought in a new player from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Georgino Wijnaldum.
The confirmation was announced directly by AS Roma through the club’s official website, which was launched on Saturday (6/8/2022). At AS Roma, the Dutch passport player will sign a one-year contract with the status of a loan player and a purchase option at the end of next season.
“The club is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum. Wijnaldum. He joined the Giallorossi on an initial loan deal from French champions Paris Saint-Germain,” read a Roma statement on the club’s official website, Saturday (6/8/2022).
“As part of the agreement, there is an option for the transfer to become permanent at the end of the 2022-23 season,” the statement continued.
The 31-year-old also admitted that he was very happy to be joining AS Roma. He promised to give his best for the team made by Jose Mourinho.
“It’s a very good feeling to be an AS Roma player. Everyone I’ve spoken to has given me great feedback about the club and its fans,” said Wijnaldum.
“I promise to give 100% and help the team compete for all our targets this season.”
Georginio Wijaldum himself has only been at Les Parisiens for one season – the nickname of PSG – after being recruited on a free transfer from Liverpool. However, he often comes off the bench despite appearing in 38 games in all competitions for the Ligue 1 giants, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
What’s more, the former Newcastle United is not included in the plans for next season from the new coach of PSG, Christophe Galtier. As a result, he decided to leave this summer on loan at AS Roma.
For information, Georginio Wijnaldum is the Giallorossi’s fifth signing this summer after Jose Mourinho first brought in Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic, Zeki Celik and Mile Svilar. Georginio Wijnaldum will wear the number 25 shirt at the Italian capital club.
