The German national team met the Danish national team in the round of 16 of Euro 2024, Sunday 30 June 2024. In the duel played at the BVB Stadium, Germany won with a score of 2-0 over Denmark.
Germany made three changes to the starting xi. Nico Schlotterbeck, David Raum and Leroy Sana played from the start. The Danish side still relies on Rasmus Hojlund on the front lines.
Toni Kroos and colleagues played aggressively from the start of the match. In the 7th minute, Joshua Kimmich’s shot was blocked by Schmeichel. A minute later, Schlotterbeck’s header was not yet a goal.
In the 34th minute, the match had to be stopped temporarily. Bad weather is the reason. Before referee Michael Oliver asked to enter the tunnel, heavy rain and lightning hit the stadium area.
The match continued again. Hojlund had a good chance in the 45th minute. One on one with the goalkeeper, Hojlund’s shot was still blocked by Neuer. The first half ended with a score of 0-0.
In the 49th minute, Denmark scored a goal from Joachim Andersen’s action. However, the goal was disallowed by VAR for offside. Two minutes later, Andersen’s action was checked again by VAR. This time, handball in the penalty box.
Germany gets a penalty. Kai Havertz, who was the executor, carried out his duties perfectly. Germany leads 1-0.
After winning, Germany became more confident. Havertz and Leroy Sane took turns getting opportunities from one-on-one situations, but failed in the hands of Schmeichel.
Germany only doubled their score in the 68th minute after receiving Nico Schlotterbeck’s long pass. Germany scored a goal through Florian Wirtz, but it was disallowed for offside. The match ended with a score of 2-0 for Germany.
In the Top 8 round, Germany will meet the winner of the duel between Spain vs Georgia. This match will be played on Monday (1/7/2024).
Musiala received a lot of praise for the slick performance displayed. However, it is believed that Germany will have difficulties if Rudiger is not at his best in the duel at the BVB Stadium.
Germany was able to record a clean sheet in the duel against Denmark. This note is not due to Manuel Neuer’s slick performance between the sticks, but also Rudiger’s solid performance.
The 31 year old central defender was able to carry out his duties well. Rudiger did not give Rasmus Hojlund much space, who was the main target of Denmark’s attacks.
Rudiger made four clearances, two interceptions and two successful tackles. Rudiger also won three duels and blocked opponents’ kicks four times. Rudiger became a strong wall in Germany’s defense.
Apart from Rudiger, there is actually Kasper Schmeichel who also deserves praise. He allowed Denmark to concede ‘only’ two goals through seven saves made. Schmeichel repeatedly won one-on-one duels with German players.
