Hamilton: Mercedes F1 car is bouncing again

Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes Formula 1 driver, has complained about bouncing car at the Belgian Grand Prix. He claims that the bouncing is like last year.

Mercedes has made progress with its difficult car design for the last two years. The seven times world champion manage to take the fourth place. However, he remain unmatched to the Max Verstappen who is leading the season.

Fortunately, he kept clear of his rivals from taking him down the line. He also managed to pick an extra point for the fastest lap with fresher tyres.

But Hamilton complained about the bouncing issue that made it difficult for him to control his F1 car. The porpoising issue has capped the Mercedes ability to challenge the Red Bull dominance.

The porpoising issue has plagued the team since the inception of new regulations. It has remained challenged last year but the issue persists despite multiple takes on the issue.

The team has drastically changed its car concept over the span of one and half year. Currently, the team is betting on ‘zero-pod’ concept which also failed to yield the intended results.

Hamilton sparked the concerns by raising the alarm of the same plague. He feared that Mercedes is “back to the bouncing like we had last year”.

“I think it was kind of a non-eventful race, there wasn’t much really going on, I wasn’t able to keep up with the cars ahead of me,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1.

“I struggled at the beginning, rear end is our biggest issue. Then we had big bouncing this weekend, so we are back to the bouncing like we had last year.

“So at the end I was keeping the Ferrari within a few seconds but I couldn’t get any closer to that battle. Then to get the fastest lap at the end, it was nice to have the gap to the car behind, it was decent. But it was gusty today and it was very difficult out there and difficult to keep it on track.”

Hamilton added that the team will investigate the issue.

“They [Mercedes] don’t know [what caused the bouncing] and to me it is a concern, but we will work through the data this week and try to figure out what we do before the next race,” he said.

“But I don’t really have much more answers for you. I know what I want and I am praying for it, I am just waiting for the day that we get it.”
