Indonesia Secures Tickets to Uber Cup and Thomas Cup Semifinals

Indonesia managed to ensure that it qualified for the quarter finals of the 2024 Uber Cup and Thomas Cup after defeating Uganda and Thailand in a match held on Monday (29/4) in Chengdu, China.

Indonesia showed superior quality over Uganda since the first match. Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, who played as the first single, was able to answer the task well.

Ester won over Husina Kobugabe with a score of 21-5, 21-6 in 18 minutes. Indonesia leads 1-0 over Uganda.

Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi then increased Indonesia's lead to 2-0. Komang beat Gladys Mbabazi with a score of 21-6, 21-13.

Indonesia's third single, Ruzana then made her debut in the Uber Cup in this match. Ruzana also performed well in the duel against Tracy Naluwooza.

Ruzana won two straight matches with a score of 21-10, 21-12. Ruzana's victory put Indonesia ahead 3-0.

Indonesia's success in winning the first three matches means that Indonesia has locked in superiority over Uganda. Indonesia also won a ticket to the Uber Cup quarter-finals.

After this, the fourth and fifth matches will still be contested. Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva will face Husina Kobugabe/Gladys Mbabazi while Lanny Tria Mayasari/Rachel Allessya Rose will meet Fadilah Shamika Mphamed Rafi/Tracy Naluwooza.

One remaining match in Group C is the Indonesia vs Japan duel. This match will be played on Wednesday (1/5).

For the Thomas Cup, Indonesia secured the first point over Thailand through Anthony Ginting's victory in the first match. Ginting won 21-16, 21-13 over Panitchaphon Teeraratskul.
 
Thailand managed to equalize after Peeratchai Sukphun/Pakkapon Teeraratsakul surprisingly beat Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto 19-21, 21-14, 11-21.

The Indonesian badminton team regained the lead after Jonatan Christie contributed points in the third match. Jojo received fierce resistance from Saran Jamsri through three matches 21-16, 13-21, 21-12.

"The day after tomorrow against India, I have a feeling they will change their single player lineup. But whoever it is, we will prepare as hard as possible, prepare everything we have," said Jonathan after the match.

Indonesia then secured a 3-1 victory over Thailand after Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin won two matches 21-13 and 21-10 over Sirawit Sothon/Natthapat Trinkajee.
