Indonesian player Played for Azerbaijan in Indonesia Masters

There is one name that caught the attention of the audience in the Indonesia Masters 2022 at Istora Senayan Jakarta. He is Ade Resky Dwicahyo, an Azerbaijani badminton player born in Indonesia.

Ade Resky has competed twice in the preliminary or qualifying matches for the Indonesia Masters 2022 on 7 June. In the first match, Ade Resky won over Indonesian player, Panji Maulana in straight sets. Unfortunately, Ade Resky lost in the next match against Soong Jo Ven from Malaysia.

Who is Ade Resky? Since when did he become an Azerbaijani player? This is the full profile of Ade Resky Dwicahyo, an Azerbaijani athlete from Indonesia.

There are at least three Azerbaijani players who were born in Indonesia. They are Ade Resky Dwicahyo, Azmy Qowimuramadhoni, and Era Maftuha.

Ade Resky Dwicahyo’s Profile

Ade Resky Dwicahyo was born in Kendari, Indonesia on May 13, 1998. Ade Resky can play in men’s singles and men’s doubles. He became an Azerbaijani citizen by naturalization process in 2018. Ade also represented Azerbaijan at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Ade Resky, a 24-year-old badminton player, has started playing at the international level since the junior level in 2016. He has competed in the Asian Junior Championship and 2016 World Junior Championship representing Indonesia.

At the senior level, his achievements are quite good. Although Ade Resky made achievements in non-mainstream tournaments, it is still a proud achievement.

Overall, according to the records of the BWF’s official website as of June 7, 2022, Ade Resky’s win ratio is 164 wins and 84 losses in 248 matches. In 2022, Ade Resky won 9 times and lost 8 times in 17 matches. A pretty good record for a 24-year-old player.

In the singles sector, Ade Resky has won various titles in the Belarus International, Egypt International, Botswana International, Bahraian International tournaments, and various championships in Africa in 2018-2019. In the doubles sector, Ade Resky Dwicahyo is paired with an Indonesian-born Azerbaijani athlete, Azmy Qowimuramadhoni.

Azmy Qowimuramadhoni was born January 1, 1999. He naturalized to become an Azerbaijani athlete in 2018, the same year as Ade Resky. Together with Azmy Qowimuramadhoni, Ade Resky is ranked 219 in the world in the men’s doubles sector.

Interestingly, Azmy Qowimuramadhoni also competed in the mixed doubles sector with Era Maftuha, a player born in Indonesia. Azmy and Era Maftuha in 2022 were recorded to have competed against the Indonesian mixed doubles pair, Muh Putra Erwiansyah / Puspa Rosalia Damayanti in the 2022 Luxembourg Open.

Naturalization of Indonesian athletes by other countries can be seen as a form of progress. The naturalization of Indonesian athletes by other countries is a manifestation of the progress of Indonesian badminton. The players born in Indonesia are believed to carry the good name of the country that is naturalizing for the advancement of their badminton.

For a long time, the Indonesian football team has also naturalized foreign players. Hence, we need to appreciate the decisions of players from Indonesia who then strengthen other countries for the development of badminton and for their welfare.

Indonesia is in a sense too narrow to accommodate the talents of local badminton athletes. The same is true for Indonesian badminton coaches and staff who decide to pursue a career in another country.

If football has gone global thanks to naturalized players, we hope that badminton will also become more global thanks to naturalized players (and coaches). It could be Indonesia can become like “Brazil version of badminton” which is known throughout the world as a country that produces world-class athletes and coaches.

In a broad perspective, the naturalization of Indonesian athletes by other countries who are serious about developing badminton deserves our appreciation for the progress of badminton and the welfare of the athletes.
