Jorge Lorenzo: “The Ducati challenge is incomplete”

Ducati MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso are eagerly awaiting the final round of the 2018 MotoGP season at the Circuito de la Comunitat Valencia, Ricardo Tormo on this weekend.

Lorenzo has suffered serious injuries in the last three races. In a spectacular crash during practice in Buriram, Thailand, he fractured his left wrist and right ankle.

“I come to Valencia 85%, although I still have to see how I feel when I get on the bike. We did not know the real extent of the injury and what I had to the ligament. I was operated very late,” Lorenzo said.

“I showed that I could be competitive with any bike, even a bike as difficult and special as the Ducati. But I needed time that everything is put in place, that I gain experience in a category as high as MotoGP, every detail counts.

“Nevertheless, the challenge is incomplete. My challenge was to become MotoGP world champion with Ducati, which only Stoner did in 2007. I did not do it, but I’m leaving with these three victories and the feeling that if I had more than time, I could have fought [for the title].” Lorenzo added.

The Spaniard will replace Dani Pedrosa at Honda next season after the Japanese manufacturer announced of the current Ducati rider, ending his two-year deal with the Italian outfit. At his new team, Lorenzo will partner his fellow Marc Marquez from 2019 after signing a two-year deal.

“If the relationship is respectful, even friendly, it’s much better. But it’s always complicated, because we both want the biggest piece of the cake – the title – and there’s only one.” Lorenzo said.

“We will try to do it in the best way possible. In the end, the three parties will benefit: Marc because he will learn from me, me because I will learn from him and the team because it will have one of the duos with the most wins and titles of the history.

“People believe that what happens on the track must affect the relationship outside, and this is not the case, ensures the future Honda driver.

“Marc is a good guy. Outside the circuits, our relationship is good. That we do not have the same vision of how to ride or compete does not mean that the relationship must be bad. It is the same as before the incident of the Aragon GP.” the five-time world champion added.
