Jose Mourinho angry over delay in Manchester United stars contract talks with Marcos Rojo

Jose Mourinho is angry with Manchester United’s hierarchy over the delay in contract talks with Marcos Rojo, according to reports. The Argentine international will have just one year remaining on his contract this summer and Mourinho wants the defender to sign a new deal.

Should Rojo fail to agree a contract extension by the end of the year, he will be able to negotiate with teams outside of the Premier League from January. According to The Sun, Paris Saint-Germain are planning a £30 million move for Rojo this summer and are keeping track of the 27-year-old’s negotiations with United.

The report claims that Mourinho is unhappy with the length of time United are taking to secure a deal with Rojo as he sees the player as a key part of his future plans at Old Trafford. Rojo has made only 10 appearances this season after requiring knee surgery on a cruciate ligament injury last April. Mourinho is understood to be unhappy with the performances of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in recent weeks, and Rojo could be in line for a regular role at centre-back once he is back to full fitness.

The French giants have Brazil stars Neymar and Dani Alves in their ranks and they are determined to join Rojo with his international team-mate Angel Di Maria. PSG bosses will swoop after tracking his stalling contract talks, with the ex-Sporting Lisbon defender having just 15 months left on his current deal. Rojo is yet to agree a fresh term at Old Trafford, with sources at the club saying negotiations with experienced players will take longer than triggering options. Mourinho, 55, wants him as part of his future at the United after returning from a serious knee injury in November. The Special One was not happy with the performances of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in the recent defeat to Newcastle and Eric Bailly has been injured with an ankle complaint.

Earlier this season, United midfielder Ander Herrera considered Rojo as one of the world’s best defenders before his injury. ‘Last season, when he got injured, I told him that he was in the top five central defenders in the world because his play was outstanding and he was in

amazing form,’ the Spainard said in December ‘I felt so sorry for him because he got injured in what was the best moment of his career.’
