Jose Mourinho gets involved in dressing room clash with Man City

Jose Mourinho had water squirted at him during a dressing room spat with Manchester City after their 2-1 Premier League win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. M.E.N. Sport understands Mourinho approached the City dressing room to request they celebrate their 14th successive league victory in a more dignified manner before a shouting match erupted between the United manager and Ederson.

City’s Brazilian goalkeeper responded by shouting in Portuguese and exchanged verbals with Mourinho as the row escalated. Mourinho then had water tossed at him, according to M.E.N. sources. It is understood City captain Vincent Kompany, withdrawn at half-time during the game, intervened to try to defuse the row. United sources have played down the severity of the clash.

City’s club photographer captured multiple picture of players striking celebratory poses in the tunnel after the game while winger Leroy Sane tweeted a picture from the away dressing room of the league leaders celebrating their win with confetti. A handful of United staff members witnessed the incident before the situation was defused and Mourinho moved on to attend interview requests for the 24 rights holders in attendance for the game. Earlier this season, Ashley Young and Dele Alli’s quarrel during United’s October home win over Tottenham continued into the tunnel, where Alli told Young to change his surname to ‘Old’, having already advised him on the pitch to retire with a ‘zimmer frame’.

In October 2004, United were involved in a melee with Arsenal players after they ended their 49-match unbeaten league record. The heated row between both sets of staff and players ended when Cesc Fabregas tossed pizza over United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. “He [Wenger] was livid. His fists were clenched,” Ferguson wrote in My Autobiography. “I was in control, I knew it. “The next thing I knew I had pizza all over me. They say it was Cesc Fabregas who threw the pizza at me but, to this day, I have no idea who the culprit is. The corridor outside the dressing-room turned into a rabble.” Fabregas confirmed he was the culprit two months ago on a television quiz show.
