Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp, in this edition of the Champions League Final thinks that his team is not the favorite to win.
The reason, Liverpool’s opponent this time is Real Madrid, a club known to have a classy history in the most prestigious competition throughout Europe.
The Reds have reached their third Champions League final under Klopp.
The last time they appeared in the final match of this tournament, they successfully brought home Big Ear from Madrid in 2019 by beating Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Los Blancos are the team that dashed their hopes of winning the previous season in Kyiv, Ukraine.
This year’s final is a mission of revenge for the Red Merseyside squad against Karim Benzema and colleagues.
If you look at history, of course Madrid are more favored to win with 13 Champions League trophies they have, four of which have been obtained in the last eight years. While the Reds have only collected six trophies.
However, in terms of playing Liverpool are actually more favorites because Mohamed Salah et al appeared very convincing from the group stage to the autumn phase of this season. The Spanish giants, on the other hand, struggled to win in the last eight and semi-finals by making incredible comebacks against Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, Klopp is reluctant to say who is the favorite in the final to win the 2021/2022 Champions League. The German tactician just wants to focus on making his men appear confident with their game.
“I don’t have an easy answer. Look at the history of the club and the way Real Madrid celebrated the comeback, I would say it’s because of the experience,” Klopp said.
“I want to be on the same level as Madrid in these things. I want us to be fully ourselves in this game. If we are at the top of our game, we are difficult to play against.”
“My main concern is for us to be ourselves and be confident. I don’t know who is the favourite and I don’t really care.”
