Kane scores twice as Bayern Munich beat Augsburg 3-1 at Munich

Harry Kane has been in scintillating form since his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munish this summer as he scored a double to steer Bayern to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Augsburg at Munich on Monday.

The home team was able to pull back a fighting and much-deserving victory against the Augs at the Allianz Arena, as the visitors made a good start to keep Bayern in check who looked short of ideas and energy.

However, tragedy struck Augsburg early when their goalkeeper Finn Dahmen made a brilliant save of a Leroy Sané shot, only for the rebound to go in off defender Felix Uduokhai, which resulted in an unfortunate own-goal, giving Bayern a lucky 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute.

The first legit goal for Bayern Munich then came during the 40th minute when the team was awarded a penalty after Joshua Kimmich’s shot brushed Augsburg defender Niklas Dorsch’s arm. The referee reviewed the moment through several frames and angles during the VAR check and ultimately ruled a penalty spot in favor of Bayern. Harry Kane stepped in to take the spot and skillfully converted it into Bayern’s first goal. The first half eventually ended with Bayern Munich leading the Augs 2-0.

Harry Kan then added more reason to celebrate as he scored his second goal of the night in the 69th minute to help his team attain a steady 3-0 lead. With only about 5 minutes of game time left, Augsburg finally got a goal in the 86th minute when Dion Drena Beljo scored after Ermedin Demirovic played the ball between Matthijs de Ligt’s legs. This turned out to be the visitors’ consolation goal as the match ended with Bayern Munich picking up a comfortable 3-1 victory at home.

In all fairness, Bayern Munich entirely dominated the match, maintaining about 70% of the ball possession and sending out 19 shouts, out of which 5 were on target. The players even crossed off over 600 passes throughout the match. On the other hand, Augsburg was pretty mediocre, having about 30% ball possession, and sending out 10 shots, out of which only 2 were on target. Even in terms of passes crossed between players, the Augs only managed to complete about 400 passes in the game. Bayern got 10 corner spots, compared to a mere 4 corner spots for the Augs.

Both these teams are slated to face off once again for a Bundesliga encounter that will probably take place in January next year. So, the Augs have a lot of time to work on their flaws that resulted in a sloppy performance at Munich today.
