Klopp Denies Liverpool Bought Players in January

Jurgen Klopp has ruled out Liverpool signing any new players in the January transfer window, saying he “doesn’t want” any arrivals despite disappointing in the first half of the season.

“Nothing will happen in this transfer window. Everything is fine,” Klopp told beIN Sports when asked about the Anfield team’s transfer plans.

It should be noted that, since taking over at Liverpool, the German manager has only signed five players when the market opened up.

Marko Grujic joined from Red Star in 2015; Virgil van Dijk joined from Southampton in 2018; Minamino was freed from Salzubrgo in 2018, and Luis Daz joined from FC Porto in 2022.

Liverpool signed Dutch international Cody Gakpo this winter transfer window. Before that, they bought Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez.

But the fact that thw duo has not integrated best makes Liverpool short of breath, only ranked ninth in the Premier League.

“We are really, really happy we got Cody. It’s about timing and getting players in at the right moment. He always made the next step.” Klopp said.

“We believe in our process, when players, especially offensive ones, they all make a step forward because of the way we work and we can help them.” he added.

When asked about Liverpool’s limits, Klopp was worried to discuss the factors that have long plagued the team since his arrival, instead recognising that problems cannot always be handled by transfers.

“I have to tell you again the money story? What could be the reason we have the money like crazy but don’t buy the players even when they are available?” Klopp said.

The Reds begin the defence of their FA Cup crown with the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield for Saturday’s third-round match.

Liverpool have struggled in the last couple of weeks, with Klopp’s men losing 3-1 at Brentford earlier this month and following that up with a 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Saturday.
