La Liga results: Atletico Defeat Getafe 1-0

Atletico Madrid won 1-0 over Getafe in the inaugural week of La Liga at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday (18/8).

Atletico’s only goal was scored by Alvaro Morata in the middle of the first half. The Spanish striker succeeded in completing a Kieran Trippier cross with a header. Atletico’s coach, Diego Simoene, fielded new players, Kieran Trippier and Joao Felix, in this match. Trippier appeared charming and gave an assist for Alvaro Morata who scored in the 23rd minute.

Getafe threatened in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, Faycal Fajr’s free kick slightly widened from the goal of Jan Oblak.

The duel between the two teams in the first round lasted hot until colored two red cards. Referee Guillermo Cuadra first drove out Jorge Molina who was caught stepping on Thomas Partey’s ankles.

The fight got fiercer in the second half and the referee was forced to pull out more cards.

A total of five yellow cards were given to Getafe including Molina’s red card. While Ateltico recorded receiving three yellow cards in which two of them obtained by Lodi which led to a red card.

Morata almost doubled Rojiblancos’ advantage in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, the former Juventus and Real Madrid striker failed to fulfill his duties properly.

There were no additional goals created in the second half until the match was over. Atletico also managed to secure three points at home.

Meanwhile, the top of the Spanish La Liga standings controlled by Real Madrid. Los Blancos has the right to occupy the top position after winning 3-1 at the headquarters of Celta Vigo, Saturday (17/8).

In second place is Sevilla who successfully earned three points from the Espanyol headquarters. While Mallorca is third. The defending champions of the Spanish League, Barcelona, fell in 15th place after swallowing defeat at the Athletic Bilbao headquarters in the inaugural match.

The injury suffered by Lionel Messi is one of the causes of the poor completion of the Blaugrana final. While the bottom three teams are occupied by Levante, Celta Vigo and Espanyol. All three teams must immediately improve themselves in order to survive in the Spanish League.
