LaLiga Santander: Madrid Held Draw by Team Relegation Zone

Real Madrid was drawn by bottom team Cadiz 0-0 on matchday 18 of the Spanish League at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Sunday (19/12).

Early in the first half, Madrid immediately tried to dismantle Cadiz’s defense, which is currently entrenched in 19th place of the 20 teams participating in La Liga this season. However, Cadiz’s defense line was tight, so Madrid were not free to be creative to score goals.

Madrid, which is far superior in the quality of players, immediately pressed Cadiz from the early minutes. Los Blancos tried to open up a goal opportunity through Vinicius Junior in the seventh minute. But Vinicius’ shot was blocked by the opposing defender.

Toni Kroos also helped create a goal in the 15th minute. However, the German midfielder’s kick was still not on target.

Opportunity to score a goal seen in the 18th minute. Using his right foot, Ferland Mendy who came forward opened fire. The ball passed Jeremias Ledesma, but the ball just hit the post and bounced over the goal.

In the 23rd minute, midfielder Federico Valverde’s turn was secured by goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma, resulting in only a corner.

One minute later, defender David Alaba’s header that hit an opposing player was also saved by Ledesma.

Madrid had long possession of the ball, but struggled to find the net for Cadiz. Alaba’s header in the 34th minute has not thrilled the opponent’s goal.

At the start of the second half, Madrid’s threat to Cadiz who was in the relegation zone (19) started with Casemiro’s shot which was blocked by the opposing defense.

Eden Hazard almost scored a goal for Madrid if only his header which uses Toni Kroos’ cross failed to be anticipated by goalkeeper Ledesma in the 56th minute.

Five minutes after Hazard’s goal, Vinicius Junior was in a similar position to give the capital club the lead.

Vinicius’s good chance to score was wasted after his shot was blocked by an opposing player. A minute later Vinicius had the better chance of a goal, but in a one-on-one with goalkeeper Ledesma, the Brazilian striker failed to score.

In the 76th minute it was Karim Benzema’s turn to kick which was not on target.

Eden Hazard also had a one-on-one with goalkeeper Jeremias in the 91st minute, but the former Chelsea star was still unable to score.

Madrid had a number of goal chances in the remainder of the game, but none of them worked. The duel ended in a 0-0 draw.
