LaLiga Santander Results: Los Blancos Detained by Los Rojiblancos 1-1

Real Madrid had to settle for only being able to win one point after being held by Atletico Madrid in Week 23 of the 2022-2023 Spanish League, on Sunday (26/2/2023). Playing at the Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid drew precisely Atletico 1-1.

Atletico also became the first winning team through Jose Maria Gimenez’s goal in the 78th minute. Even though at that time Atletico were playing with 10 players after Angel Correa received a red card in the 64th minute.

Meanwhile, Madrid was only able to reply through Alvaro’s goal in the 85th minute. With the 1-1 result, Madrid failed to get close to Barcelona.

Madrid is now in second place with 52 points or is seven points behind Barcelona, who are at the top of the 2022-2023 Spanish League standings.

Playing in front of his own supporters, Los Blancos appeared confident. They were also able to suppress Atletico well at the start of the first half.

A number of opportunities were created from the actions of Marco Asensio, Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior, and Karim Benzema. However, Madrid still had difficulty breaking down the Atletico goal escorted by Jan Oblak.

Meanwhile, from the Atletico side, the visitors had difficulty attacking. However, through counter-attack schemes, Diego Simeone’s troops had several times endangered Los Blancos’ defense.

Unfortunately, the poor finish made Atletico’s few chances fail to convert into goals. It was noted that Atletico could only have two opportunities and only one was on target against Madrid.

Meanwhile, Madrid managed to release eight shots and only two were actually right at Atleticio’s goal. Due to the poor finishing of the two teams, the first half of Madrid vs Atletico ended with a score of 0-0.

Entering the second half, Madrid tried to regain control of the game. Attack after attack was launched by Carlo Ancelotti’s troops.

In the 64th minute, Madrid received good news because the Atletico player, Angel Correa, received a red card after elbowing Antonio Rudiger. Even though Correa only played at the start of the second half.

Interestingly, Atletico, who are outnumbered by the number of players, can actually score goals. Starting from a free kick bait from Griezmann, Gimenez continued the ball to Thibaut Courtous’ goal.

Madrid trailing 0-1. Of course, falling behind did not make Madrid fall, they also got up and were able to equalize in the 85th minute. It was Alvaro, a young Madrid player who scored a goal in return.

The 1-1 score lasted until the game ended and the Madrid derby ended without a winner.
