Leclerc: Vettel accepted his mistake

Leclerc chasing vettel

Charles Leclerc, Ferrari young driver, believes that the clash at Brazilian Grand Prix shall not have happened with his team mate ruling out any point for the team.

The collision took place while both tried to dominate each other. The collision took both out of the race. Leclerc accepted the responsibility of his fault but he pointed to his team mate mistake. He thinks that Vettel knew that his move pushed the team out of Brazilian race.

Both Ferrari’s touched at Autódromo José Carlos Pace when Vettel tried to regain his position which he had lost to his team mate.

The German pulled himself alongside his team-mate and tried to sequeeze Leclerc. But unfortunately, he stuck to his ground and Vettel went into another Ferrari damaging both cars.

Mattia Binotto, Ferrari team principal, had asked for justification and clarity on the matter and both of them were called back to HQ at Marenello.

Leclerc hinted to related events at meeting and suggested that his team-mate had accepted his fault.

“Seb probably shouldn’t have gone to the left and he knows it,” he said. “And I could have done a better job of avoiding him going to the left.”

Sebastian Vettel was not available to make comments at Abu Dhabi conference. He was busy with a newly born, third, baby.

The team’s instructions were not followed by both drivers. They are under great pressure as they both want to win and assert themselves on the team. However, Leclerc made clear that both will be able to compete but they will have to avoid such incidents at all costs.

Leclerc said, “What is important is everything is clear now and we move forward.

“We will be able to race together. We will try to not let it happen again.

“Seb and myself are very competitive. We both want to win but we need to find the right compromise because we are racing for the same team. We need to be less aggressive and give each other more space.”

The Monégasque racing driver has been on the charts with his performance through his second season of F1 career. He is very competitive such that he had put Ferrari lead driver under pressure and outperformed him.

Leclerc currently holds fourth position on drivers chart ahead of Vettel.

“I particularly looked at it to try to understand how we could have made things better,” he said.

“The consequences were huge but the impact was very small, so that was a little bit unlucky. It was unfortunate.”
