Lewandowski believes Bayern Munich players are getting older

Robert Lewandowski believed Bayern Munich players are getting older. In an interview with Reuters, the Polish striker believed that the Bavarian club should renew its players.

According to the 29-years-old striker, some of Bayern players are 30 or getting older now. This will be the main problem for the club in the future. He also said Bayern’s policy is no longer adapted to the realities of modern football.

“We shouldn’t delude ourselves. Each club needs to get a top player every two or three years to renew the team, to bring some new blood, new quality.” Lewandowski said to Reuters.

“At this point we really have a good team, but it is known that players are getting older, and today we are replacing some, like Kimmich, who is very good at his new position, which shows that a young player can be a successor of quality to a player as wonderful and experienced as Philipp Lahm.

“If we look at the last transfer and the amounts that some clubs have paid for some players, if Bayern wants to compete, it must be more creative during the transfer window.” he added.

Lewandowski concluded by evoking new qualities, thus implying quite clearly that Bayern lacks to compete on the European scene. He knows the hot temperament of his bosses, Rummenigge in mind, it is not certain that the message is very well taken.

Rummenigge had previously reframed Lewandowski, who had criticised Bayern’s long preparation tour in Asia.

“If he complains, he must know that the team of his dreams, Real Madrid, has traveled 24 days this summer, twice as much as Bayern. This is not the first time he says badly about the club, and I know there is is agent behind all that.” Rummenigge said.

Lewandowski joined to Munich from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in 2014. He opened the 2016/17 Bundesliga season with a hat trick in a 6-0 victory against Werder Bremen.

He scored 28 goals in all competitions for Munich in this season.  On March this year, he reached 100 goals for Munich in his 137th appearance for the club.

Lewandowski also won six trophies alongside Munich, three Bundesligfa trophies, one DFB-Pokal trophy, and two German Super Cups.
