Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes will race together for a ninth season in 2021. He has won a joint-record seven world drivers’ championship titles while he holds the outright records for 95 wins, 98 pole positions, and 165 podium finishes, among others.
“I am excited to be heading into my ninth season with my Mercedes team mates. Our team has achieved incredible things together and we look forward to building on our success even further, while continuously looking to improve, both on and off the track.” Hamilton said.
“I’m equally determined to continue the journey we started to make motorsport more diverse for future generations and I am grateful that Mercedes has been extremely supportive of my call to address this issue.” Hamilton added.
Hamilton has finally signed a one-year extension to his contract which will see the seven-time world championship riding for the factory Mercedes squad for a ninth consecutive season.
The German manufacturer recently denied that contract negotiations with the Briton were faltering due to Hamilton demanding a pay rise.
“Lewis`s competitive record stands alongside the best the sports world has ever seen, and he is a valued ambassador for our brand and our partners,” Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said.
“The story of Mercedes and Lewis has written itself into the history books of our sport over the past eight seasons, and we are hungry to compete and to add more chapters to it.” Wolff added.
Hamilton has gotten betr and better at fiding the capability within as a driver. Each year he has been able to find the motivation to raise the bar for his performances over the season.
The 36-year-old driver certainly has a great relationship with teammate Valtteri Bottas, one that is no doubt helped in that the Fin has not been yet able to strike first in getting a championship lead.
