Lewis Hamilton seals his fourth world title at the Mexican Grand Prix 2017

Lewis Hamilton sealed his fourth world title despite a ninth place finish at the Mexican GP 2017, won by Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen. Sebastian Vettel, meanwhile, finished at the same time as fourth place.

The Briton had already been crowned in 2008 alongside McLaren and in 2014/15 alongside the current team Mercedes. He returns to the height of the French Alain Prost and the German Sebastian Vettel, his rival throughout the season with fourth world title.

However, German’s Michael Schumacher is still on the top of the record with seven-time world title. Argentina’s Juan Manuel Fangio, meanwhile, had been crowned five-times.

“I’d like to say a big thanks to everyone in this team. What you’ve done the past couple of years just remarkable. I’m just so grateful for all your hard work this year. God bless you,” Hamilton said.

“I tried as hard I could to come back, a big thank you to my family and my team. Mercedes gave been incredible for the past five years and I’m so proud to be part of it.

Hamilton had never been so badly ranked this season but he had never been so happy since joining Mercedes team for the past five years.

“When I grew up with Stevenage I dreamed of F1, I would never have dreamed of one day reaching that level,” Hamilton said.

“To tell me that in the future children will know the name Hamilton because of what I accomplished, it touches me deeply,” added the former McLaren driver.

At the Mexican Grand Prix on last weekend, Verstappen, Vettel and Hamilton then entered in this order in the first turns. But Vettel was gone on pole, complicated the situation by successively touching Verstappen and Hamilton in the first two corners.

The German was forced to change his front wing, while Hamilton, suffering from a puncture of the right rear tyre, narrowly escaped the abandonment by returning cautiously to his garage a dozen seconds later.
