Liverpool failed to qualify for the 2023-2024 Champions League. That left Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah frustrated and disappointed.
For your information, Liverpool will certainly fail to enter the top four zones of the 2022-2023 Premier League. This can be confirmed after Manchester United beat Chelsea 4-1, Friday (26/5/2023).
The result made Manchester United rise to third place in the standings with 72 points. Meanwhile, Liverpool are stuck in fifth place with a collection of 66 points.
The Red Devils -Manchester United’s nickname- became the last team to secure a Champions League spot after Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United. On the other hand, this is the first time Liverpool have failed to secure a Champions League ticket since the 2015-2016 season.
At that time, Liverpool were only able to end the season in eighth position in the standings, far from the top four zone. Responding to this, Mohamed Salah was very disappointed.
“I am completely devastated. There is absolutely no reason for this. We had everything we needed to qualify for the Champions League next year and we failed,” said Salah quoted by BBC International, Friday (26/5/2023).
“We are Liverpool and qualifying for the (Champions League) competition is the minimum requirement. I’m sorry, but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you down and ourselves.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s failure is also said to have an impact on Jurgen Klopp’s status at Anfield. The reason is, this season Liverpool did not get any trophy from all the competitions it participated in.
