Liverpool again failed to gain full points when competing in the second week of the Premier League at home to Crystal Palace.
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace match ended in a 1-1 draw, the match was held on Tuesday (16/8/2022).
Despite playing dominantly, the Reds have not yet found their best level and have wasted many golden opportunities.
The Liverpool squad that left behind even had time to play with 10 players after Darwin Nunez was shown a red card.
Darwin Nunez was shown a straight red card for trying to gore Crystal Palace defender Andersen.
Previously, Andersen was seen pushing Nunez. Annoyed, the former Benfica striker could not contain his emotions.
Playing at Anfield, Liverpool may have the ball, but clearly can’t present the highest level.
The excitement of attacking since the beginning of the match, Liverpool actually conceded by Crystal Palace winning first through Wilfried Zaha’s goal in the first half to be precise in the 32nd minute.
Wilfried Zaha took advantage of a quick counter-attack and escaped the offside trap, successfully ripping Alisson Becker’s net.
Liverpool was under pressure, until finally Luis Diaz equalized in the second half to be precise in the 61st minute.
This result is not good enough for Liverpool who have only won two points from two draws in the Premier League 2022/23
Diaz’s equalizer didn’t necessarily make the game easy for the Reds.
Palace immediately closed the defense, the match was locked until the 80th minute.
Entering the final 10 minutes, Liverpool tried to increase the tempo, but it was clear that the Reds’ game was not as good as usual because of the lack of players
There were no additional goals until the referee blew the long whistle. The 1-1 score between Liverpool vs Crystal Palace lasted at the end of the match.
After the brutal incident, Van Dijk warned his team-mates. Van Dijk asked Nunez to be more self-controlled.
“Of course he is disappointed and also maybe with himself. I think that’s a separate thing, he has to manage himself, he has to know that these things can happen, especially in the Premier League,” van Dijk was quoted as saying by the Mirror.
The Dutch national team defender said Liverpool players gave support to Darwin Nunez. The former Southampton player also hopes that similar incidents do not happen again.
“It’s a learning curve and obviously we will always support him. He has our support and he knows it can’t happen again, and hopefully it will be like that,” said Van Dijk.
On that occasion Van Dijk said that Jurgen Klopp’s team played extraordinary with 10 players. Liverpool recorded a goal back and Mohamed Salah twice almost scored in the last minute.
“I think with 10 players we played incredible, we put them under pressure, and obviously we are disappointed to draw and not get a win, that’s for sure,” said Van Dijk.
