Toni Kroos has decided his future at Real Madrid. He will retire after Euro 2024. So, will Luka Modric make the same decision?
Last March, it was reported that Toni Kroos would sign a new contract with Real Madrid. However, two weeks ago, the German player decided his future.
Kroos chose not to open the door to new contract negotiations. At the age of 34, Kroos will retire from his football career. Kroos retired after appearing at Euro 2024.
Two players have the potential to follow in Kroos’ footsteps, making the 2023/2024 Champions League final the end of his career. The two players are Luka Modric and Nacho Fernandez.
Unlike Toni Kroos, Luka Modric has not announced his decision to the public. The player from Croatia admitted that he had made his decision, but it had not been announced to the public.
“The decision regarding my future has been made but I can’t tell you yet,” said Luka Modric.
“I always said I wanted to retire at Real Madrid, this is what I really want. This would be a dream, this is my home, the club of my life,” he said.
“I want a farewell like Toni Kroos,” said the former Tottenham player.
Luka Modric’s contract will end in June 2024. The same situation also applies to Nacho Fernandez. Several sources say Nacho will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Nacho is said to have several attractive offers from Saudi Arabia and the United States. However, he has not discussed this decision publicly.
“I have decided what I will do when the season ends but I won’t say it, it’s not the right time,” said the captain.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Luka Modric is ready to make sacrifices to stay at Real Madrid. Two important sacrifices will be made, reducing salary by up to 50 percent and being willing to sit on the bench more often.
Luka Modric’s agent, Vlado Lemic, confirmed that his client could stay at Real Madrid next season.
“One more season. The most likely thing is that Luka Modric will stay another year and continue to write history. Real Madrid is the best club in the world and is led by the best president in the history of football,” said Vlado Lemic.
“Luka Modric is a Real Madrid fan who loves this club and considers it his home,” stressed Vlado Lemic.
Luka Modric has made his decision, but the new contract issue is not over yet. Real Madrid has not yet made a final decision. There will be an important meeting between Luka Modric and Florentino Perez as club president.
Apart from Modric, Perez will also meet and talk with Toni Kroos. Just like Modric, Kroos’ contract will also expire and no final decision has been made regarding his future.
In February 2024, Kroos is believed to be ready to sign a new contract with Real Madrid. However, a final decision has not been made between Real Madrid and Kroos.
