Manchester United and Chelsea transfer activities do not seem to be over. Both are reportedly in a race against time to bring in Jamie Vardy before the summer transfer window closes.
They must rush to submit a formal proposal if they want to bring in Jamie Vardy. The reason, Leicester City coach Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Vardy wants to sign a new contract with The Foxes – Leicester City’s nickname -. Both sides have opened talks on the matter.
The 35-year-old has scored 133 goals in 270 appearances across all competitions. Including 17 goals last season which made his name the target of a number of clubs.
His contract expires in 12 months. But Rodgers said talks were ongoing to tie up Jamie Vardy one more season.
“There is talk going on behind the scenes about Jamie Vardy. But nothing is certain yet. We would love to have him stay. He is proving to be sharp. He will still affect the team’s play. Hopefully, between his agent and the club we will find a solution, ” said Rodgers quoted by the Express page, Sunday (7/8/2022).
“If Jamie Vardy stays fit and available, then I’m sure he can still score as many goals as last season. If you look at the fitness tests he did, he is still very fit and strong.”
Brendan Rodgers’ comments came at the same time as Manchester United and Chelsea’s interest. Both teams are known to ask to be kept informed of Jamie Vardy’s contract situation.
If any of the clubs wanted to sign Jamie Vardy, they had to act very quickly. Not only that, the clubs must try hard to seduce him, because the 35-year-old player is not the type who likes money. Because, based on experience, Vardy turned down a £20 million offer from Arsenal in 2016. He also chose to extend the contract at the club he had defended since 2012.
