Manchester United Boss Praises Daniel James for Penalty Shoot-out Win Against AC Milan

Daniel James

Manchester United finished their pre-season after win over AC Milan. Daniel James scored to United a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win after a 2-2 draw on Saturday night, in the Cardiff Principality Stadium.

Speaking in in his post-match press conference, United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on James who scored the winning penalty.

“Dan is ready to go. He’s had a great pre-season and has fitted straight into the group, both as a player on the pitch and in the team, and as a person and a personality in the group,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s been a joy to work with and I didn’t give him the last penalty, I think he wanted it and that’s always a good sign.” Solskjaer added.

James joined United from Swansea City. He signed a five-year deal with an option to extend for a further year. The Welshman enjoyed a great season in the Championship, he scored 6 goals and made 7 assists for the Swans.

“I think that’s what we want a Manchester United player to do [get the fans off their seats. On the other side of it, as a defender, you don’t really want him running at you with the ball. We just have to catch up with him when he crosses the ball by getting players into the box for him.” Solskjaer said.

James on the other side, impressed with his new team-mates during their prep-season. He has good possibility of United’s starting season opener against Chelsea on August 11.

“It’s amazing. Today was a difficult test but it showed the spirit come to from behind. To score that last penalty, especially here in Cardiff, is very special.” James said.

“The boys have been great with me, great to get away on pre-season, everyone has been amazing with me. Next week is another test.

“Chelsea will be a strong game but we’ve shown what we’re capable of with six wins out of six. We’ve shown a different style of play with the high press, today we found it a bit harder, but Chelsea is going to be another test and we’re going to full throttle.” James added.
