Manchester United Dominated by Young Players, Matic Throw Critics

The inconsistency experienced by Manchester United in the 2018/19 season did make them fail to realize the target to finish in the top four. Not only that, David de Gea and his friends must also be willing to not take part in the 2019 Champions League title.

Unfortunately, this does not necessarily make the club move quickly in increasing the strength of its squad in the transfer market. So far United have only secured the signatures of two players, namely Daniel James and Aaron Wan Bissaka, both 21 years old.

The Red Devils squad next season seems to be indeed dominated by young players, besides the two names above, they also still have several other names such as Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood.

Manchester United senior midfielder Nemanja Matic criticized the existence of young players at the Red Devils club who were prepared to face the 2019/2020 season.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepared many young players during preseason such as Angel Gomes, James Garner, Daniel James, Mason Greenwood, and Tahith Chong.

In the previous season the former ruler of the English Premier League had already used the services of young players like Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay, and Andreas Pereira.

“Quality and experience will lead you to the title. In this squad we have quality but are inexperienced,” said Matic quoted from Dailymail.

“We have five or six top players but they are still young like Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial. They have displayed quality on the pitch but are too young to lead the team,” continued the former Chelsea player.

Matic considers young Manchester United players to be given a long time to reach maturity.

“Football always craves results but fans must be patient so they can perform better. In the future I am sure these players will bring United back to where they should be,” said Matic.

Matic’s comments were like repeating commentator Alan Hansen who criticized Sir Alex Ferguson’s policy of using young players.

But at that time Hansen said that Manchester United would not win with young players proved to be silenced by Ferguson who actually won success with the Manchester United youth squad that relied on Class Of ’92 such as David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Gary Nevile, and Phil Nevile.

At present, besides Matic, Manchester United has Juan Mata, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, and Alexis Sanchez who fall into the category of senior players.
